Guide to getting sponsorships

Marketing you and your kart to local businesses for sponsorship is a tough job. Just sending out a proposal is not going to get anything. Get out there and approach potential sponsors.
Just having a good proposal will not guarantee funding for your karting hobby. What can you offer these businesses? It’s not just about putting a sticker on your kart. Getting your sponsor involved on race days is one of the first things I offer. This enables them to get their hands dirty, become involved in motor sport and makes them feel a part of the team. Wearing team shirts and hats along with the pit crew adds to this feeling.
Offer a day at the track - you can give them a few laps. Come and try days are good for these, so get in and help your club organise them. Offer your kart during week days to be on display at their business. Keep them informed how you are going, good or bad – this is a must. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words - get some good shots of you on the track and ask them to display them at their place of business.
Ideas for a proposal:
• Introduction - tell them who you are & what you do
• Have a picture with you and your kart
• How many people are in your club and attendance of audience on race days
• Your objectives for the year - what meetings you are going to be attending
• Results to date
• Sponsorship packages on offer and what the sponsor gets for their money
• Social media advertising
